At-Home Workout The Park Bench Exercise Equipment: Kettlebell and a park bench
Warmup: 25 – 30 rounds of walkout pushup – lunge left and right
Workout: 3-5 rounds. Start with 5 repetitions of each exercise
- One arm kettlebell chest press on park bench
- One arm kettlebell row on park bench
- One leg step up on park bench (while holding kettlebell)
- Kettlebell swings
- Turkish Getup
Notes: A walkout pushup is performed by bending at the waist and putting your hands on the ground, then walk out on your hands to the pushup position, do a pushup, then walk back on your hands until you are in the standing position with your hands on the ground. To do the lunges, stand upright after the walkout pushup and lunge left then right. The one arm kettlebell chest press on the park bench is just like a lying dumbbell press but with one arm. On the rows, hold the top position and squeeze hard. Pull the kettlebell into your armpits hard. Put your hand and knee of the non-working side on the park bench for stability. This is not a metabolic conditioning workout so no need to rush, but don’t rest too long. Keep moving at a good pace. There are two options for structuring this workout. You can either do both left and right side for each round (i.e., press left for 5 reps, then press right for 5 reps), or you can do all left side exercises first, then right next and count that as one round. You could use this simple workout as a long term plan all by itself.
Progression: Because we only have one kettlebell, progression involves first adding rounds until you get to 5, then adding repetitions until you reach 15. After that it is time for a heavier kettlebell.
Emphasis: This is a basic strength workout. The loading should be adequate for both strength and hypertrophy. Using only one arm in the chest press dramatically increases the load on the stabilizing muscles. At-Home Workout The Park Bench Exercise.
